How a Sea Turtle and Yoga changed my Focus

Hi powerful soul,

How was your week so far? Have you hustled or tried your best to keep track of your goals? But sometimes you feel like you won’t reach it or can not find the next clue to your secret of life? I was thinking about it a lot in the last weeks. And if you are a person which is always rushing, doesn’t want to miss anything or wants to have a full weekend filled with friends and of course successful fitness sessions? Went to the gym and found yourself between salad-eating, shake drinking and always a way more fit people then you? Frustrating, right? And for what….

Then I have a story for you. It is from one of my favorite books „The Why Cafe“ written by John P. Strelecky.

Extract of Chapter 10:

….“I was about 100 feet away from the beach, and diving down among some large rock structures, when I turned to my right and saw a large green sea turtle swimming next to me. That was the first time I had ever seen one in the wild, so I was ecstatic. I rose to the surface, cleared my snorkel, and floated on top of the water, so I could watch him.

„He was right underneath me when I looked down, and he was swimming away from the shore. I decided I would stay on the surface and just watch him for a while. To my surprise, although he appeared to be moving pretty slowly, sometimes paddling his flippers and other times just floating in the water, I couldn’t keep up with him. I was wearing fins, which gave me propulsion power through the water, and didn’t have on a buoyancy vest or anything that would slow me down, and yet he kept moving farther from me even though I was trying to keep up.

„After about ten minutes, he lost me. Tired, disappointed, and a little embarrassed that I couldn’t keep up with a turtle, I turned back toward the beach and snorkeled to shore.

„The next day I returned to the same spot, with the hope of seeing more turtles. Sure enough, about thirty minutes after walking into the water, I turned to look at a school of tiny black and yellow fish, and there was another green sea turtle. I watched him for a while as he paddled around the coral, and then I tried to follow him as he swam away from the shore. Once again, I was surprised to find I couldn’t keep up. When I realized he was pulling ahead of me, I stopped paddling and just floated and watched him. It was at that moment when he taught me the important life lesson.“….

So why do I tell you this story?

Don’t fight the waves USE them for your own good. Don’t try to hard to get to your goals. Maybe relax a moment and give yourself some time to rest and learn to take a look at your inner self when you feel too much resistance.

I did a reset this summer. I quit all gym courses and eating habits and started with good and gentle yoga classes and intuitive eating. And after 8 weeks now I feel more balanced and have a better focus and better mindset. I asked myself before this process as I was in the middle of a crazy hustle mode: „What if, I could do whatever I want today?“ And I had to start laughing. Can I not just do whatever I want to, and when I want to do it?

So Yoga became more and more my routine. Not to become one of those crazy fit and super flexible girls (can barely touch my toes now). It was all about to get a new focus and better mindset.

You think: „I am not sweating, I am not feeling a burn all over my body, so this is not the right thing for me“. But let me ask you to find a good reason why this is not the right for you? That’s what I did. Why is fitness so important for yourself?

Yoga changed my focus. Being grateful every day, no compare every inch of my body with others and finding goals which really matters.
